empathy

Yesterday Aaron and I came home from meeting and starting cleaning up right away for the superbowl party crowd that would hit our home in 3 hours. Simon and Miriam did very well at staying out of our way with one exception.

I finished bedroom, living room, and dining room. I was in the kitchen when I heard definite playing noises in the living room, I walked in to see a huge pile of stuffed animals on the floor. I instantly starting saying “No, No, No! You need to take these back in your room!” Simon tried to interrupt (with some reason only logical to a 6 year old), but I wouldn’t let him. “NO! Back in your room! Now! Go!” (Not my finest mommy moment, but a very real one) They started picking up and headed to their room with armfuls of animals. As Miriam walked from the room she called back,

“It’s OK Mom, I know how you feel. You are grumpy, and it’s OK, I know how you feel.”
